I've been thinking a lot recently about all the things that have been happening associated with women. Unfortunately, the cruelty and harm directed towards women has always been present but it only seems so recent that our voices are getting louder. I know you're probably already thinking of what I'm referencing and yes, I'm talking about Cornell. I can't even put into words how appalled I am over this heartbreaking crime but I feel like it opens the door to a much bigger discussion us ladies need to have.
For centuries, the patriarchy has literally burned women for being smart, simply not falling in line with religious views, being local healers, or simply lacking male protection. Our brains have even been wired to internalize our own misogynies against other women. I'm sick and tired of seeing other women, no matter the color or race, being treated like we're some piece of meat. We ALL deserve respect and spaces for us to be listened to. We women are so much more than what we have been conditioned to believe. We are scientists, astronauts, nurses, doctors, life providers, lawyers, bosses, and so much more.
I bring this conversation up because I truly believe that once we understand our own internalized misogyny and start supporting other women, we will make progress. The woman who you pass on the street probably shares the same inspirations and dreams as you, she definitely works as hard as you and yet, still can't seem to climb up the ladder because the patriarchy keeps pulling it from her. We are all the same and all unique in our own and beautiful ways. We are warriors whose bodies go through this incredible cycle of hormones every month, we ARE mother nature. When we have kids, (which growing a child in our bodies is so amazing in itself) our bodies literally produce milk according to the babies needs, that is so beautiful. And even after women give birth and experience a crazy drop in hormones, we're expected to get right back up and head to work after a certain period of time even though our minds, bodies, and spirits are completely different than they were before. And guess what, we do it anyways. We do it because we are strong, resilient, and we are WOMEN. Not to mention, women's intuitions and connection with energy are so strong that we can tell something isn't right moments before anything even happens. Hence, why we make the best witches ;)
We need to never stop talking about this, it can't just be a 'phase' and then we forget about it in a couple of months. NO. We need to hold men accountable, talk to friends and family, educate people, visit historical places, read, read, read. Because once you start, you only become more educated and notice the patterns put into place. If you live close by the Salem Massachusetts, I beg you to please visit this year. It will be the 500th year anniversary of the witch trials and the injustices made against women at that time and visiting is not only great for this time of year, but it'll connect you more to our history. If you can't go, I highly suggest reading about it, your jaw will literally drop from how crazy it is.
With all of this being said, I'm so amazed by all of what women in the past and present have accomplished and fought for. I love my girls, I love everyone who took the time to read this and hopefully shared the same feelings I felt writing this. I'm very proud to call myself a woman and you should be too.
